The Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) at Desert Regional Medical Center opened in 1989 as the Palm Springs, California region's first multidisciplinary cancer program. This innovative model of care brings together the core outpatient oncology services under one roof, in a comfortable and patient-friendly environment. The four-story, 60,000-square-foot center provides screening, diagnosis and treatment, support and follow-up care. Care is coordinated by a team of oncologists and a 120+ support staff of cancer specialists.
Among the disciplines offered are medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, gynecologic oncology, thoracic oncology, gastrointestinal malignancies and psychosocial services. Most recently, CCC launched a comprehensive Neuro-Oncology Program, developed in conjunction with community neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists and cancer specialists. A major component of the program includes Stereotactic Radio Surgery utilizing the new Trilogy linear accelerator.
CCC considers professional and community education as important components of the cancer program. CCC keeps community physicians informed through pretreatment planning conferences and educational symposiums which bring together some of the leading experts in the field. CCC reaches out to the general public through community education programs and collaboration with local cancer-related organizations. In addition, CCC's psychosocial services department provides a wide range of support and educational programs for patients and their families.
