SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN FEATURES ARTICLE ON WORLDWIDE RESEARCH TO DECIPHER GENETIC MATERIAL FOR BETTER DIAGNOSIS AND PROGNOSIS OF DISEASE; APTIUM ONCOLOGY’S DR. BRIAN DURIE IS PART OF RESEARCH TEAM
LOS ANGELES, CA -- March 20, 2009 - Scientific American, one of the most respected and longest running scientific journals in the world, recently featured an article on DNA testing as a tool for the better diagnosis and prognosis of disease. Dr. Brian Durie, medical director of the International Myeloma Foundation and Aptium Oncology's national program director for hematological malignancies and multiple myeloma, is part of a team from the United States and Germany performing research on this scientific milestone.
The journal quotes Dr. Durie: "The long-term goal is to identify genetic guides that can point physicians to a tumor's location as well as patterns that are characteristic of its stage to determine and monitor treatment and disease progression in patients." Dr. Durie is also an oncologist at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center's Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute in Los Angeles.
